Looking to buy a used 2-stroke outboard? Check compression first—it should be even across cylinders. Inspect for corrosion, especially around the lower unit. Ask about maintenance history and if it’s been flushed after saltwater use. Check for excessive smoke or unusual noises during a test run. Bring a mechanic if unsure. Parts availability can be an issue for older models, so research before purchasing. A well-maintained engine can be a great deal—just do your due diligence! buying a used 4 stroke outboard
