OSRS is unique among modern MMOs in that its currency can be earned entirely through in-game activity without ever spending real money. Here are the main ways players make gold in OSRS:
1. Bossing
Killing bosses like Zulrah, Vorkath, the God Wars Dungeon generals, or Theatre of Blood (ToB) bosses is a lucrative method to earn millions of GP per hour.
Zulrah: Consistent drops worth 1.5M–2M GP/hr.
Vorkath: Good for solo PvM with profits around 1.2M–2M GP/hr.
Nex: High-end PvM for players with elite gear, potentially yielding over 3M GP/hr.
However, these bosses require high stats, expensive gear, and lots of practice. Deaths can be punishing if you're not experienced.
2. Skilling
Certain skills are excellent for passive or active gold making:
Runecrafting: Crafting blood runes or double nature runes can bring in up to 1.5M GP/hr at higher levels.
Hunter: Black chinchompas and herbiboar hunting yield fast profits with low investment.
Fletching/Smithing: High-level methods like making rune darts or dragon bolts can be profitable.
Skilling is often slower GP/hr than bossing, but requires less risk and often less effort.
3. Slayer
Slayer is one of the best long-term ways to make money. You unlock valuable drops like Abyssal whips, Dark bows, and Kraken tentacles.
With 80+ Slayer and decent gear, you can expect 800k–1.5M GP/hr.
Some superior monsters can drop items worth tens of millions, like the Hydra claw or Imbued Heart.
Slayer also has the benefit of training combat while earning RuneScape gold.
4. PvP
Player-versus-player combat, especially in the Wilderness or PvP Worlds, offers some of the most exciting and risky ways to make gold. With proper setups and skill, you can:
PK and loot valuable items from other players.
Participate in Bounty Hunter for Emblems and rewards.
Risk your gear for high-stakes profit.
This method is high-risk, high-reward, and not for everyone.
5. Quests and Achievement Diaries
Many quests reward you with valuable items, access to money-making areas, or direct gold payments. Completing the Recipe for Disaster quest gives you access to Barrows gloves, which are great for both PvM and PvP. Diaries like the Ardougne Diary increase thieving success and teleport options, making them more efficient for gold farming.
