Tada Drastuh Svarupe Vasthanam is one of the most profound sutras from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, found in the very beginning of the text (Yoga Sutra 1.3). It translates to “Then the Seer abides in its own true nature.” This sutra beautifully explains the essence of yoga, which is to quiet the fluctuations of the mind so that one can rest in pure awareness. In our daily lives, we are often caught in the turbulence of thoughts, emotions, and identifications, forgetting our true Self. But when the mind is calm, still, and free from distractions, we experience the state described in Tada Drastuh Svarupe Vasthanam, where the soul rests in its eternal nature of peace, bliss, and clarity. Practicing asanas, pranayama, meditation, and self-discipline are all tools to reach this state of union. It is not merely a philosophical idea but a lived experience of spiritual realization. By deeply understanding and living this sutra, practitioners discover that yoga is not about becoming something new, but about returning to the essence of who they already are—the pure consciousness beyond the body and mind.
